The Process

Candidates should initially make contact with ASMC to outline their aims, skills and abilities.

ASMC will advise the suitability of any proposed submissions and recommend the level at which the assessment should be made. The requirements for submissions for each of the disciplines are:

Composition

A single major composition or a small folio of compositions which may be in any style and for any medium. Recordings and analyses are optional but will support the submission.

Musicology

A paper of 6,000-8,000 words in length, presenting original musical research or analysis.

Performance

A professional video, DVD or other visual recording of a performance which must include at least one original composition.

Music Education

A paper presenting research on a topic in music education, or compositions of a pedagogical nature, or a new method or textbook presenting original methodology.

We will be happy to advise as to the suitability of any proposed submission. The submission will be assessed by an appropriately-appointed examiner, who may recommend admission to the ASMC as Fellow, Licentiate or Associate in composition, musicology, performance, or music education, according to the merits and nature of the work.
